Home Goals

THESE ARE OUR GOALS

Goal

To protect humanity’s last tropical rainforest together with the indigenous peoples of the Amazon and the world’s youth.

Vision

To meet enough sensible people at „5 past 12“ to leave a world worth living in for the next generations through joint work.

Credo

The future quality of life on earth will largely depend on how healthy we can preserve the nature of which we are a part. Our hearts and minds dictate that we preserve our last rainforest by supporting its indigenous inhabitants, because we share a common future.

Strategy

Since it is humans who destroy nature, we must work with humans to preserve healthy ecosystems and restore threatened ones. For Amazonia, we rely on the forest people, as the born guardians of the forest within, and on the youth of the world, as their allies. We make it possible for both to join hands in the common interest.

The indigenous peoples of Amazonia want to live with their forest and their traditions in a contemporary way

To do so, they must offer their youth a future in the forest. AMAZONICA has developed a model for contemporary living and working in the forest with model communities of the Achuar, Shuar and Kichwa of Ecuador. The goals are education, self-determination, ecological production and income for the families.

The measures take place in all areas of life: School education up to academic degrees, crafts, agriculture, community development, medical infrastructure, cultivation of culture and environmental protection.

This model is mature and is going into series production.

The youth of the world determine future life

That’s why we want to give them an understanding of the tropical rainforest and responsible access.

This takes place at the AMAZONICA Academy, the first jungle academy far from the road network. It has representative offices in two indigenous communities. There it offers international universities an infrastructure for research and teaching in the primary forest and local jobs and income for the forest population. Indians and students from all over the world cooperate on an equal footing.

The pilot project „Saving our tropical rainforest by supporting its indigenous people“

The pilot project goes back to an initiative of the indigenous people (1999) and was prepared together with them for two years (until 2001). The model matured in practice for a further six years (until 2007). To this end, the indigenous peoples of the Shuar, Achuar and Kichwa provided model communities in the Ecuadorian rainforest. Together with the families in these villages, the „Program for Contemporary Living and Working in the Forest“ was implemented, modified where necessary and adapted to the different circumstances. Procedures, experiences and results were documented and serve as a basis for the further expansion of these successful measures in the overall AMAZONICA program.
