Tourism
AMAZONICA wants to preserve the tropical rainforest for humanity.
In Ecuador, the rainforest in the Amazon basin belongs to the local indigenous people, eight indigenous peoples with legally recognized land titles.
They consider themselves a natural part of their forest, another species among plants and animals, water, earth and sky.
A considerable part of this primeval forest has already been destroyed and is still under threat. However, there are still large areas of forest that are intact. The indigenous people want to preserve them, and all responsible people around the world should support them in this.
The collaboration came about at the request and invitation of the peoples. They explained: „We want to give our young people a secure future on our land. To do this, we need allies“. The Shuar and Achuar thought of tourism to create jobs and income locally.
This is the right idea, because no other business offers opportunities to so many and such diverse occupational groups – from illiterate farmers to paramedics and tourism engineers.
The development of tourism in a village can even lead to the establishment of its own tourism business, as happened in Yuwints/Shuar and Sharamentsa/Achuar.
However, every village community (and AMAZONICA) has a long way to go before this happens, as the forest dwellers lack almost all the necessary prerequisites.
From experience, we expect 5-7 years of intensive work in all the areas that you will find as projects on this website. In addition, there is the construction work to present the infrastructure of the villages and the accommodation for visitors in the traditional style in a beautiful and practical way.
Very gentle, sustainable tourism in small groups is one of the most efficient ways of protecting ecosystems today. This is especially true for the tropical rainforest.
What do visitors want to see? An intact forest with its animals, plants and indigenous people. To achieve this, the trees must remain standing, the animals must stay alive, and the indigenous people should be proud of their roots and maintain their culture.
Experience has shown that tourist activities reduce poaching and other harmful attacks on endangered nature.
All forest dwellers understand this argument and even more so because the preservation of values creates jobs and income in the village.
Dear visitor of our website, as mentioned several times, we are working with three new villages to educate the families and create the infrastructure for future tourism. When the time comes, you will be informed on our homepage.
